Ingredient — Benzoin

It is one of the raw materials for incense, and is read as "ANSOKUKOU".

It is the resin of a tall evergreen tree of the Egonaceae family found in Southeast Asia, including the Malay Peninsula. The name refers to the mass of yellow sap that exudes when the trunk is damaged.

The theory behind the name is that it was a "scent for resting the breath" and that it was "a scent used in the land of rest (Pakistan).

In food flavoring, it refers to benzoin, which is used in foods with a vanilla aroma.
